Birds Choice Starling Resistant Purple Martin House (8 Suite)

This "Water's Edge Suites" Purple Martin house by Birds Choice (formerly Coates) is one of the most scientifically proven purple martin houses available on the market today.

Features eight 6" x 12" two-room suites for greater protection from predators and weather. Purple Martins enter through a specially designed, starling resistant entry hole. From the entry room they travel 90 degrees through a 2-1/4" opening into the nesting room with an elevated sub floor and nesting trays. This design provides greater protection from natural predators such as owls, coons and hawks. Also, Purple Martins have a tendancy to yield more fledgings from large compartments and the entry room serves as a protective staging area for the young birds prior to flight.

Louvered air vents and attic insulation provide optimal protection from temperature extremes. Each suite has its own private porch with aluminum guard rail. Hinged doors allow easy access and roof perch lets the birds sit on top of their 'mansion.' Includes door plugs for closing off the access in the winter. Made of cool aluminum and stainless steel components which are lightweight; does not harbor parasites and is easy to clean.

The house weighs 15 lbs and comes with a steel pole mounting plate. The sleeve part of the plate has a 1-1/2" outside dimension and a 1-3/8" inside dimension as well as 1/2" holes on each side to run a peg through. The plate itself has 4 drilled holes that correspond with the bottom of the house. Plate is designed to work with the Birds Choice Pole (see link below).

Assembly required. (Takes 1 - 3 hours depending on the individual.) When assembled, the house measures 19"W x 14"L x 26"H.
