The makers of Kestrel Meters, Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), take weather measuring seriously.   NK's founders and lead engineers, Richard Kellerman and Paul Nielsen, are determined to make the most accurate and reliable hand-held weather devices available. They have developed four patented measurement technologies for the Kestrel Meter family and continue to research ways to improve the Kestrel line and create new products.

Unlike most other products with a temperature measurement, the Kestrel Meter temperature sensor is outside the case to ensure it measures the air, not your hand or pocket. The "curls" serve to further isolate the temperature sensor from the effects of the case temperature. Simply wave your Kestrel Weather Meter back and forth a few times and you'll have accurate air temperature readings in seconds.  And, since all Kestrel Meters are completely waterproof, you can actually take water temperature and snow temperature readings.
